Benefits of Support Groups During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Debra Elmore - Executive Director, Bay Area Association of Kidney Patients (BAAKP)- Oakland, CA

Biographies:

Janice is a native Floridian from the city of St Petersburg who, in 2000, was diagnosed with end stage renal disease (ESRD). She has experience with in-center dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and in-home hemodialysis, and received a kidney transplant in December 2013. She is the founder of the All Kidney Patient Support Group, and she volunteers at her family owned Child Care Center, where she is a VPK teacher. Janice is also a volunteer with Life Link of Tampa Bay, an organ procurement organization.

Debra Elmore is the Executive Director of the BAAKP, and served for many years as a board member and editor of the BAAKP newsletter. She received a living donor kidney transplant from a close friend in 2014, Her work with BAAKP and its support groups has enabled her to pay forward some of the knowledge, support, and love that she received on her kidney care journey.

Laurie Church works closesly with the National Kidney Foundation and the Twin Cities Kidney Support Group, raising over $1000 annually in the Minnesota Kidney Walk. She has done extensive fundraising and outreach about the organization and the program, and mentors many patients with kidney disease in an effort to educate the community about the awareness of early detection and resources.

  • Share hands-on tips on how to get the most out of your support group.
