Biographies:

Allison Boutwell is a Patient Services Manager at Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG) End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network 7. Shereceived her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Tulane University and her Master of Social Work degree from Florida State University. At Network 7, Allison works as a dialysis patient advocate. Her work focuses on addressing patient grievances, preventing Involuntary Discharges (IVD), leading the Patient and Family Engagement project with dialysis facilities and supporting members of the Patient Advisory Council (PAC).

Derek Forfang has been a Type 1 diabetic since age 10 and an ESRD patient since 1999 utilizing various treatment modalities including transplantation, peritoneal dialysis and in-center hemodialysis. He is the Chair of the National Forum of ESRD Network’s, Kidney Patient Advisory Council (KPAC), and Member on the Forum Board of Directors. He is the Chair of HSAG ESRD Network #17’s Patient Advisory Committee (PAC) and chairs the Network #17 Board of Directors. He serves as Chair of the National Kidney Foundation’s (NKF) Kidney Advocacy Committee (KAC) and Chairs the NKF Public Policy Committee. He also is a member of the Kidney Health Initiative (KHI) Patient and Family Partnership Council.

Presentation Objectives:

The presenters will:

  • Discuss the role of the ESRD Networks in supporting patients during COVID-19.
  • Review resources and support services available for kidney patients.
  • Identify steps that patients can take when seeking help related to a concern.
