The SMEs in the HAI Affinity Group focused on infection rates in dialysis facilities. They believed transparency is essential to patient safety. Group members created a poster for facilities to track and post their infection rates.
We're on the Right Track to Leave Healthcare-Associated Infections Behind
The SMEs in the In-Center Hemodialysis Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (ICH-CAHPS) Affinity Group examined how the ICH CAHPS survey is conducted and the number of times per year patients may be asked to participate. The SMEs shared that they may not always remember their experience of care satisfaction between surveys and created an experience of care tracking card to address the issue. The card can also be shared with facilities wishing to incorporate the patient perspective in their Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Plans tied to the ESRD Quality Incentive Program (QIP).
The SMEs in the Grievance Satisfaction Affinity Group focused on supporting The Forum of ESRD Networks' release of the Grievance Toolkit. The toolkit was developed and created by patients for patients of the Kidney Patient Advisory Council (KPAC) of the Forum. The Affinity Group SMEs found the toolkit useful and meaningful; they provided recommendations for how the Forum and the ESRD NCC could promote the toolkit to the kidney community. The patients also recommended making a one-page summary supporting the 41-page toolkit.
Each year, members of the Patient-Selected Affinity Group discuss relevant topics that are important to kidney patients and identify themes between the topics. For 2017, the group identified the importance of setting SMART Goals as key to staying active in their care and in their lives as kidney patients. The SMEs in this group implemented SMART Goal planning for themselves and were asked to share their SMART Goal successes.
